The Kleinwalsertal Oberstdorf region has everything that climbing enthusiasts could ever dream of. The range of via ferratas, climbing centres and sport climbing on the rocks here offers beginners and expert climbers plenty of scope to put themselves to the test. Starting from the 4* Alpen Select Apartments, there are difficulty ratings range from B to D available.
Children and beginners can take a climbing course at the Kleinwalsertal climbing school near Mittelberg and embark on their first attempts in the climbing centre, learning tips and tricks from the professionals.
Via ferratas around Mittelberg in the Kleinwalsertal & Allgäu areas
There are four via ferratas nearby:
1. Mindelheimer via ferrata
Route: 4 summits (three Schafalpköpfe and the Kemptener Köpfle)
Difficulty: B-C; for experienced, sure-footed climbers
Duration: 6-8 hours
2. 2 Länder via ferrata
Route: fixed via ferrata on the Kanzelwand mountain, covering a distance of 500 m of the vertical face
Difficulty: C-D; for experienced participants or with mountain guide
Duration: 3.5 hours
3. Walser via ferrata
Route: fixed via ferrata on the Kanzelwand mountain
Difficulty: B-C; sure-footedness and climbing gear required; also suitable for beginners and children (over 1.40 m)
Duration: 1.5 hours
4. Hindelanger via ferrata
Route: from the summit of the Nebelhorn (by Nebelhorn railway) to the Grossen Daumen
Difficulty: B-C
Duration: 5-6 hours
